The Celebration of a New Ministry - Sunday, September 8th - 5 p.m.
Charleston, WV – St. John’s Episcopal Church is pleased to celebrate the calling of The Rev. Eric L. Miller as the 45th Rector of St. John’s. The Celebration of a New Ministry service, during which Fr. Eric will be officially instituted as Rector, will take place on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. The service will be presided over by Bishop Matthew D. Cowden, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of WV, with participation from priests and deacons across the state. A reception will follow the service.
Miller, a West Virginia native, brings a wealth of experience and a deep connection to the state and the Episcopal Church. He graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Communications before completing his theological education at Virginia Theological Seminary in 2003. His early ministry began at St. John’s in Huntington, WV, where he served as curate under the Rev. Donald K. Vinson. He then served as rector of St. Stephen’s in Beckley, WV, from 2005 to 2010.
In 2010, Miller was called to Ascension & Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Wyoming, Ohio, in the Diocese of Southern Ohio. During his fourteen years of ministry there, he was actively involved in Diocesan leadership, including serving on the Diocesan Council and the Commission on Ministry, as well as fulfilling roles as Chaplain to the Wyoming Fire Department and the Diocese’s summer camp, Procter.
Miller is excited to return to his home state and begin this new chapter with St. John’s in Charleston. He and his wife, Rosemary, also a West Virginia native, met as campers at Peterkin, the Episcopal Camp and Conference Center in Romney, WV. They are eager to reconnect with the Peterkin community and the broader Diocese of West Virginia. The Millers have two sons, Nathaniel, a junior at The Ohio State University, and Lucas, a freshman at the University of Cincinnati.
“Returning to West Virginia and to the Diocese that has always been close to my heart is a true blessing,” said Fr. Eric. “I look forward to the journey ahead and to serving the people of St. John’s and the Charleston community.”
