Meandering with the Interim: All In

On October 5, a hero of mine passed away. I heard it at the beginning of Thursday Night Football. Now, I realize many are not into sports and we who are often use them as metaphors. But this is not about sports; it is about a man who I admired and tried to emulate. His name is Dick Butkus, and he was good at what he did, both on and off the field. He often said; “Some people are made to be doctors, others, to be lawyers. I was made to play football.” He was all in with what he did in his life.

What if we said, “Some people are called to be disciples.” and as Hymn 293 says; “and I mean to be one too”?

How often do you ask yourself that question? Do I act, respond, speak, listen, and behave like a disciple? Am I “all in” with this call to follow Jesus? In Matthew 6:21, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Jesus says, give me your heart and the rest will follow. Are you “all in”?
