Adult Forum to Become Connected Communities

For decades now Episcopal churches have been having ‘adult forum’ time on Sundays, either before or after worship. I remember my childhood parish, Church of the Good Shepherd in Parkersburg, held adult forum regularly throughout the program year; I’m also aware that St. John’s has held adult forums for at least the last thirty or so years.

Adult forums are important. Adult Forums have been a time when adults gather to learn about God with other adults. We need time to learn and grow together. St. John’s adult forums are a bit different than your average forum in that we bring community concerns into the rooms to learn about the concern and to discern ways we might minister.

Our time together on Sundays at 9:30 am in room 109 are meaningful and special. We gather as an intentional community. A few folks bring something to snack on. Coffee is made, and there’s often hot water for tea drinkers. We pray and share how we’re showing up together. Then, we have a speaker who presents on a topic for about thirty to forty minutes. We are connected to Christ through our connection to one another. It is a beautiful time, and I invite you to join us.

The time has come for a new name for a new community of people gathered, and so, our 9:30 am time is now called, “Connected Communities.” I invite you to rejoice with me in that we already have a good number of people gathered. And, I invite you to join our Connected Communities, as there is still room for us to grow together. Sunday the 13th we’ll be hearing about domestic violence and ways to address it. The following week the 20th we’ll be hearing from Francesca Bessey, Director of Programs for WV FREE. Francesca will be talking with us regarding new youth reproductive health programs.

Are you ready to join Connected Communities? We would love to have you!

In God’s Grace, Eric L. Miller+ Rector
