Updates from The Wardens - Feb 2025
A Senior Moment by Diane Hendricks (Senior Warden) : Having Fun Yet?
How often do we stop and consider how we ‘just have fun together’ in our church? Whether we are newcomers or have been here for decades our time together typically revolves around worshipping and serving in some capacity. As it should be, you say…. After all, we are here to worship and the work required to keep our doors open and welcoming to all can be overwhelming at times.
Preparing to recover and restock our kitchen, perhaps, has inspired me to think about ways we can come together outside of worship for some just plain fun. I’m dreaming about a talent show, a monthly luncheon following the Wednesday Eucharist, a musical production, regular parish pot-lucks, a game night. Newcomers, especially, need some informal ways to connect with our parish - opportunities outside of worship. Our congregational life ministry team is awesome but others can step up and host. What group activities spell “fun” to you? Please share your ideas with Brian and Maggie, our Congregational Life chairs or me.
Kitchen Renovation Update - by Junior Warden Brian Hamra
The Hunter Hall kitchen renovation project is being considered a top priority by your building and grounds ministry team. Those who have seen the kitchen in its current condition know that there is a lot of work to be done. We are literally starting with four bare walls in every area. But that means we can now do what is best for St. John's.
First and foremost, the kitchen must be thoroughly cleaned, steam cleaned if necessary before we can even think of moving in new equipment or counter spaces. In the meantime, we are looking for replacement equipment to fully furnish our "new" kitchen, including a floor model convection oven, six burner gas stove and oven, small ice machine,
three compartment sink, a separate small hand sink, and stainless steel counters. The exhaust hood above the stove area was also taken and it must be replaced. We will also need cooking utensils, knives, sheet pans, boiling pots, cooking skillets, cutting boards, etc
Good news though. Contacts have already been made with these goals in mind. We are working with a food service consultant for kitchen design and costs of new equipment.
Thank you to our first generous donor to this project, who has asked to remain anonymous. So do you have a favorite kitchen item/appliance that you would like to contribute towards? We welcome all donations and can't wait to show off our new space!
