Meandering with the Interim: Advent and Expectations

Early in my ordained ministry I had an opportunity to gather with colleagues and discuss ministry. Of course what else would we talk about?

I am fortunate to remember one thing the facilitator said and it has stuck with me these past 40+ years; “Christ will meet you at the level of your expectations.”

As Advent comes upon us I always find myself focusing on Mary. I hear her acceptance of God’s offer but having no idea what to expect.

What do we expect of Advent? It is not an abstract question. What do you want or expect of this season? I hope it is not “just to get through it.”

We Episcopalians don’t often focus on Mary, but I am asking you to look at her, put yourself in her place and consider - what do you expect?

“Christ will meet you at the level of your expectations.” Chris +
