Evangelism Corner: March
The Lenten season is upon us already! What shall we give up? I am never successful with elimination of something during this season. I begin with good intentions, and then well, the most perfect piece of something I decided to eliminate appears!
An alternative to giving up is to slow down. Many of us have such busy schedules in a fast-paced world.
While meditating on what to include this month, I have spent a lot of time reflecting upon the renewed happiness of our parish. This fall brought lots of activities and renewed fellowship. Our friends and neighbors are returning on Sunday mornings and for many other events.
This past Sunday we welcomed the Rev. Chris Thompson and his delightful wife Mary Jo. During procession, I looked around at the fuller pews and smiling faces! The son shone in all of us, while the stained glass glistened with the natural sun. Many pictures were taken of our happy faces, young and old!
What am I going to do this Lent? I will be quieter than usual, reflecting, and listening at home. Recently I realized this quiet time is necessary to heal from poor vision and difficulties over the past. My smiling and loving St. John’s family will be right by my side guiding me as we travel the Lenten journey together.
Enjoy this season of the church year. Spring is trying to come a little too soon, but perhaps each of us can slow down and appreciate the smiles of our parish.
