Join us on Sunday, November 17 at 4:00 p.m. for a special performance by the DiGregorio/Alves Duo, featuring two distinguished musicians from our region. This unique ensemble will present an engaging blend of viola and guitar in an enjoyable repertoire. Admission is free, with a reception following the concert. Bernard Di Gregorio is the Principal Viola of the West Virginia Symphony and Artist-in-Residence with the West Virginia Symphony/Kanawha County Schools Strings Program. During the summer months, he is the Principal Viola with the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra. He has also been Principal Viola with the Roanoke (VA) Symphony for over 20 seasons, has been a member of the Alabama Symphony, and also performs occasionally in the viola section of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He has studied at the New England Conservatory of Music and holds a diploma in Viola Performance from the Longy School of Music where his principal instructor was George Neikrug.

Júlio Ribeiro Alves is a faculty member of the Marshall University School of Music where he is responsible for teaching guitar, music theory and aural skills. Alves earned a Doctor in Music degree from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University (Bloomington, IN), a Master in Music degree from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD), and a Bachelor in Music degree from the University of Brasília in Brazil

In addition to his teaching activities, Dr. Alves is an active recitalist, He has performed in Brazil, the USA, Argentina, Uruguay, Costa Rica, Spain and Italy. His work is featured in the solo albums Suíte Nordestina (2021), Cici e Tiloca: Eustáquio Grilo Solo Guitar Works (2020), and Umberto Freitas: Música para Violão (2016), as well as in Letters to a Young Poet (2014, with Duo Alves) and Tuba in Motion (2014, with tubist George Paulton).
