Columbarium Extension
Years ago (feels like another life) I was a bank trust officer in South Africa handling deceased estates and was struck by a phrase that appeared on an undertaker’s bill – “fee for scattering of cremains”! Never had I heard that term before, although instinctively knew what it meant. But really – “cremains”?
We are so very fortunate at St Johns to have the elegant, graceful columbarium situated in our garden, clad in honey colored stone for the purpose of housing our cremains. I have my own particular spot in the wall already reserved and paid for and am pleased that whatever may remain of me should be in such a beautiful, peaceful spot.
Our Columbarium was designed by parishioner Joe Mullens (he is the gifted sculptor who created the magnificent military figures that grace the War Memorial at our State Capitol). The wall was designed to hold the remains of 128 Saints of John and all of these have been taken, it was accordingly decided to add an extension to the Wall so our members could continue to plan for their lives hereafter. The extension holds an additional 32 niches. At this moment the price for the new niches has yet to be determined, however if you have an interest in pursuing a future resting place, please let the parish office know of your interest and they’ll get back to you once the cost has been determined.
